Introduction

Static Positioning

Static positioning is the default positioning model for HTML elements. When an element is statically positioned, it means it follows the normal flow of the document layout. Elements laid out in this manner do not respond to top, right, bottom, left, or z-index CSS properties, because these properties require the element to be positioned in a more specific manner (e.g., relative, absolute, fixed, or sticky).

An element with static positioning is placed according to its place in the HTML document structure. This means that it appears on the page in the order it appears in the document’s markup, influenced by its display properties and those of its sibling and ancestor elements.

Static positioning ensures a natural, document-flow-based layout that’s easy to manage in simple webpage structures. It’s the groundwork upon which the other positioning contexts build. Relative Position

Even though you move the element, it still takes up the same space as if you hadn’t moved it at all. This is different from some other ways to position elements that can cause the layout of the page to change. Relative positioning is like saying, “Stay in your lane, but you can scoot around within it.”

Why Use Relative Positioning?

One of the main reasons to use relative positioning is when you need to make small adjustments to where an element appears. For example, you might want it to overlap another element a little or to line up just right with something else on the page.
